Juelz Santana Reveals Record Labels Blocked His Album with Lil Wayne
In a recent revelation, Juelz Santana confirmed that his long-awaited joint album with Lil Wayne was ultimately blocked by record labels, preventing it from ever seeing the light of day. The project, tentatively titled I Can’t Feel My Face, was highly anticipated by fans in the mid-2000s, as both rappers were at the peak of their careers and frequently collaborated on tracks that showcased their undeniable chemistry.
The History of I Can’t Feel My Face
Originally conceived in the mid-2000s, I Can’t Feel My Face was meant to be a powerhouse collaboration between Juelz Santana of The Diplomats and Lil Wayne, who was rapidly ascending to the top of the rap game. The two artists frequently teamed up on mixtape tracks and guest appearances, generating a buzz that made the album one of the most anticipated projects in hip hop at the time.
Juelz and Wayne began working on the album between 2006 and 2008, recording numerous tracks together. Leaked songs and snippets, such as Bad Side, Black Republicans Freestyle, and After Disaster, only fueled speculation that the project was close to completion. However, despite fan demand, the album was never officially released.
Industry Politics and Label Interference
According to Juelz, label politics played a major role in shelving the project. At the time, he was signed to Def Jam Records, while Lil Wayne was under Cash Money/Universal. Differences between the labels regarding contracts, clearance issues, and financial splits ultimately caused delays.
Additionally, Juelz had his own contractual disputes with Def Jam, which further complicated matters. In past interviews, he has spoken about the label holding him back and preventing him from dropping music at the height of his momentum. Lil Wayne, on the other hand, went on to dominate the rap scene, eventually releasing his historic Tha Carter III in 2008, which cemented his status as one of the greatest rappers of his era.

Over the years, both artists have teased the idea of revisiting I Can’t Feel My Face, but no official plans have materialized. Some tracks have surfaced online, but the full album remains locked away.
With Juelz Santana now independent and Lil Wayne still an influential figure in hip hop, there’s always a possibility that the two could reunite and finally release the long-lost project.
